A 70-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries as the result of a stabbing, according to Lawrence police.

Police said they’re not sure when the stabbing occurred, but officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Beatnik Court just before 1 p.m. Thursday and found the woman inside the home, according to a Facebook post from the department.

Laura McCabe, a spokesperson for LPD, did not provide further information regarding how officers were dispatched — the nature of the call, whether the woman had called police herself or someone else had called, and so forth.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical took the woman to an area trauma center.

“Detectives were able to speak briefly with the 70-year-old victim before she was taken into surgery,” LPD wrote in an update to their Facebook post. “Unfortunately, she was unable to provide a useful suspect description.”

Police have spoken with the woman’s family members, McCabe said.

“Investigators remain at the scene conducting interviews and processing it for potential evidence,” according to the post. “We will provide more information once detectives learn more.”

LPD has no suspect information. They would encourage anyone with information to call dispatch at 785-843-0250, or CrimeStoppers of Lawrence and Douglas County at 785-843-TIPS (8477). Tips to CrimeStoppers can be anonymous.
